1907 The Building of ADMIRALTY ARCH ? Trafalgar Square

Lovely old early vintage animated EDWARDIAN postcard of   TRAFALGAR SQUARE LONDON looking south west. Fairly light traffic of horse drawn vehicles and pedestrians. Magnification provides some interesting detail.

Left of Nelson' s Column there is a gap in the buildings where I think THE NEW ADMIRALTY ARCH LONDON that links Trafalgar Square with The Mall and Buckingham Palace was being built at this time. Magnification of the gap shows part of the road fenced off by boards,  and ladders or props aginst the building on right side of gap.

Admiralty Arch was designed by Aston Webb and constructed between 1906 and 1911. Admiralty Arch marks the end of The Mall. It was built  as part of the memorial scheme to Queen Victoria. It has three main arches, the central one only being used for ceremonial purposes.

Used  and postmarked 1908. Unusual as it was used within France and has 2 french 5c stamps. Valentine's Series  58392 dating image as 1907.
