~ Carved Jet & Turquoise Turtle Button ~
This evening I'm listing a real beauty of a button that I carved today. The two main materials which I used to create this handsome turtle are both beautiful in their own right but together they really make an eye catching carving. The base of the button is carved from Siberian Jet, very similar in quality to the more familiar Whitby jet from England. The turtle's shell is a nice big chunk of genuine turquoise which I traded for this past summer, it has one larger inclusion of a patch of gray quartz and a few tiny specs of metal ore scattered here and there. The turtle's eyes are inlaid using bone and green bakelite. The entire button is carefully carved and detailed, and very nicely polished. Currently the button has a self shank carved onto the back but if the winning bidder would like me to I can also make this into a very nice pin for wearing. The button measures just a bit over 2 inches at the longest measurement and has my signature and the date inscribed on the back side.
