Commemorative Medal for the March on Rome, bronze (Medaglia Commemorativa della Marcia su Roma, bronzo) 1922, rare version by F.M. Lorioli & Castelli of Milan

Signed at the base of the tablet ‘F M LORIOLI & CASTELLI•MILANO•’ and ‘EB MOD. (for Eugenio Barone), the initials ‘RIP RIS’ in the angle of the fasces at the base; on replaced correct ribbon. The medal was created on 21 October 1923 to mark the first anniversary of the Fascist March on Rome of 28 October and Mussolini’s assumption of power three days later. It was officially recognised on 31 December 1923 but only for wear by members of the Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale (National Security Volunteer Militia - M.V.S.N., popularly known as the Camicie Nere or Blackshirts). Later, by Royal Decree of 1 November 1928, all military who had participated in the March were authorised to wear the medal. Three versions of the medal exist; those by Lorioli and Castelli are found much less often than the unsigned version by Stefano Johnson of Milan.
