| ~ Vintage ROGER & GALLET Perfume Bottle PHOTO ~
If you collect Roger & Gallet perfume bottles or packaging, you might be interested in this original studio photo of a perfume bottle and box against a textured background. The bottle label says "Eau de Toilette. Le Jade. Roger & Gallet. Paris. New York." This was taken by a commercial photographer for an advertisement, date and photographer unknown. This was probably a professional test print to set up a desired lighting and shadow atmosphere, not a "camera ready" shot, as there are a few small dust flecks in the print that were on the original negative. As I have no familiarity with the field of perfume collecting, I don't know how old this is from the bottle or label style, but it was found with New York City studio photos taken in the 1930s and 40s, none of the others of this subject matter.
CONDITION: 8 5/16" x 7 9/16," black and white, matte and slightly "metallic" surface, printed on a heavy print paper. The back side is plain with no stamping. There is a lot of sheen to the dark areas, typical of silver prints. This is even in color tone, not reddish as my photo came out. I took the photo in natural light with a flash. This photo is nice and clean, with no surface scrapes, pressure marks or ripples, bends or creases, just light surface dusting/soiling to the plain white back. This is perfectly rectangular with original rounded edges, but due to the type of heavy print paper it doesn't lie flush to a table.
If you collect or deal in perfume bottles, this is a wonderful historical reference and would make an interesting display piece on shelves with your vanity items or in your show booth.
